Minor Bantam Ottawa Senators September Shootout Champions

The Ottawa Senators Minor Bantam AAA team began the season with a championship title in the September Shootout Tournament held at the Bell Sensplex on September 10 to 12, 2010.  The Senators went undefeated in the round robin with victories over Kingston, Cambridge, Syracuse and Quinte, in which both goaltenders, Connor Hicks and Charles Jensen, registered shutouts.  Against Kingston, Johnny Parsons broke a 1-1 tie at the end of the second period with the winning goal assisted by Devon Kealey.  In game 2, offense from the defensemen, including a goal by Kris Myllari assisted by Grant Baird and a goal by Brendan Daly assisted by Corey Tam, resulted in a 4-0 victory over Cambridge. Goals by Brad Adams and Joe Zappavigna and 3 assists from Ethan MacLean powered the Sens past Syracuse 5-0 in Game 3.  A first period goal by Brandon Zullo and strong defensive play from Stefano Di Rosa was all the Senators needed to beat Quinte 1-0 in their final game of the round robin.

In the semi-final game versus the Upper Canada Cyclones, the Senators got behind early, but stormed back to eke out a 3-2 victory with a power play goal midway through the third period by Ian Johnston from Dylan Davidson.  The championship game saw a match-up with the other undefeated team, the Eastern Ontario Wild.  The Senators jumped out to a 3-0 lead, with 2 first period goals by Costa Georgitsos with assists from Daniel Porter, and held on for a 5-2 win, which was sealed by a third period goal by Zach Senyshyn.

Head coach Mickey Goulet and assistant coaches John Capaldi and Chris Jackson were happy with the victory and proud of the boy’s hard work.
