The coach for the coming year (2010/2011) will be: Mark Atkinson.
Profile of Head Coach Mark Atkinson, CPC
Coach Atkinson comes to the Senators organization with 27 years of experience as a Head Coach at various levels including; AA, AAA, Junior B and University. He has attained his Certified Professional Coach designation through Hockey Canada by achieving Advanced Level ll accreditation.
Recognized as one of the best player preparatory coaches within the Ottawa District Hockey Association with; 3 league championships, a winning percentage of 60% ( 972 wins out of 1620 Games) and approximately 270 + players graduating to Junior B, Tier ll and Tier l Major Junior, University and professional ranks.
Having accomplished the semi-finals in 22 out of 27 seasons, he has won the Eastern Ontario Championship and advanced to the Ontario Provincials 3 times. Coach Atkinson has the desire to coach and win!
He has the ability to teach the game through exciting practices, classroom instruction that includes strategies and tactics. Accordingly, practices are designed to challenge the competition’s strengths and weaknesses. And of course, the goaltenders receive well above normal attention. Proof of this, would be; 2 out of his last 4 goaltenders have made the OHL while 2 have made the CJHL. In fact, 51 goaltenders have made it to Tier ll or Tier l levels of play from his programs.
Excelling at mental preparation, and off-ice team building activities these become a mainstay of each team’s seasonal plan. As he says, “It’s just not hockey that makes the player”.
Tireless in his effort to make sure the team comes first, he is so patient to get the best results from each player, but foremost a disciplinarian.
If your son chooses to play for Coach Atkinson, he will certainly learn the game, but also he will become a better person by the end of the season.
